After numerous research sojourns to vineyards and wineries of Europe and the United States, David and Cynthia Enns decided that BC’s Okanagan Valley, and particularly the Naramata Bench, offered the very best locations for the production of ultra premium wines. Together, they purchased the vineyard property on Naramata Road in 2003 and have subsequently planted additional vines in Spring 2004 and built a gravity flow winery in 2005.
David started as a true ‘garagiste’ winemaker in 2001 making two vintages of small batch, hand-crafted wines with fruit sourced from some of the best vineyards in Washington State. Augmented with various courses and workshops from UC Davis in California, David has apprenticed under some of the best winemakers in the Okanagan Valley and is now leading the winery team. In 2006, David was named one of BC’s top winemakers and his winemaking prowess is consistently resulting in award winning wines.
For Cynthia, the transition from being an “MBA type, business consultant” to becoming a “vineyard manager” is a truly welcomed change. Viticulture science is not only intellectually stimulating, but the satisfaction of applying all of these learnings to the vineyard is highly gratifying.
